East Cork Early Music is thrilled to expand its 2026 outreach programmes to connect with Cork’s vibrant farming communities! Building on the warmly received success of our family-friendly ‘Horrible Histories & Harmonies’ series, we are delighted to introduce ‘Folklore, Farming & Fiddles’ — an innovative pilot Arts & Agriculture project led by baroque cellist and viol specialist Norah O’Leary.

About the Workshop
Join us for a unique, interactive concert-workshop celebrating the deep connections between Cork’s rich agricultural heritage and ancient musical traditions. Discover how natural and agricultural history shaped past music, presented in the welcoming setting of Greywood Arts Centre.

Highlights Include:

• Delve into historical songs about cows, booleying, and rural farm life.
• Learn the surprising historical origins and meanings behind familiar tunes like ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’.
• Experience working songs dating back to the Tudor period and earlier.
• Get up close with lesser-heard instruments, including the viola da gamba, early Irish harp, recorders, and the Swedish keyed nyckelharpa!
